The 2014 Ram 1500’s popularity as a daily driver is no surprise in part to its excellent fuel economy. Even in heavy traffic, the Ram averages 21-22 mpg, and up to 30 mpg on the highway. It’s all due to the 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V6 under the hood.
One reason that modern diesels run so cleanly is due to the urea-injection system that keeps the exhaust free of soot and odors. This fluid needs to be refilled occasionally.
Ram has thoroughly thought to the put refill tank adjacent to the fuel filler itself, with a blue cap marked “DEF/AdBlue”. There’s no indicator to tell you when you’re finished filling the tank unless you jump back in the truck to check the gauge, however.
The DEF tank holds about 8 gallons, and takes about 10 minutes to fill. It costs about $6 per gallon, which is roughly $50 about every 10,000 miles. It’s an easy addition to regular maintenance that won’t break the bank.
The Ram 1500 isn’t just a truck. It’s part of the next generation connectivity for the available Uconnect System. The technology has been upgraded both inside and out and includes access to premium features such as Yelp, voice texting (not compatible with iPhone mobile devices), 9-1-1 call, roadside assistance, stolen vehicle assistance, theft alarm notification, remote vehicle start, remote horn and lights, remote door lock/unlock, and WiFi hotspot.
With the easy to use Voice Command with Bluetooth system, you can easily “call Home” or “redial” while keeping your eyes on the road. Music volume automatically adjusts so you can hear driving directions and incoming calls.
Plus, Ram has partnered with the leaders in navigation and SiriusXM Satellite Radio, helping get you through traffic and navigate unfamiliar territory.
If you want something, say something! The Uconnect Voice Command with Bluetooth allows you to change the cabin temperature or make a call using natural voice recognition.

A new sort of tailgate could rethink the way we access the bed of a Ram pickup truck. Rather than the typical fold-down tailgate that is known so well, patent drawings reveal a tailgate that combines the functionality of a fold-down design with a 50/50 split. The split can be opened like a barn-door design or dropped flat like a standard tailgate.
Honda Ridgeline features a single-piece tailgate that is double-hinged so it can be opened traditionally or be swung out to the side. However the proposed patent tailgate will have two halves that can be used independently of the other. Unlike Honda, the individual halves would be operated via touchpads.
Implications for this new design aren’t completely clear, but it seems possible that the rendering could be for a concept vehicle, but production is a possibility as well. Ram definitely has the ability and willingness to innovate the pickup segment as of late, with features such as coil-spring rear suspensions, light-duty diesels and the Ram Box beside storage system.
How far can the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel take you on just one tank of gas? You’d be surprised, especially when compared to its competitor trucks.
Ram has the industry’s first light-duty diesel engine producing exceptional torque, reducing CO2 emissions, and offering the best fuel economy of any full-size pickup. No wonder it’s already a legend.
At 28 highway mpg and 9,200 lbs max towing, the innovative Ram 3.0 EcoDiesel V6 engine outperforms the Chevrolet/GMC 5.3 L (4×2) by 5 hwy mpg, the Ford 3.5 EcoBoost (4×2) by 6 hwy mpg, and the Ford 5.0L (4×2) by 7 hwy mpg.
Simply stated, a gallon of diesel gas lasts longer than a gallon of gas. This means fewer fill-ups and some serious savings over the years.
Visit the Ram website HERE to calculate your yearly fuel savings by simply entering the amount of miles you drive per day. That’s over $500 in total annual savings when you drive 50 miles per day as compared to the 2014 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine.
Greater savings also mean greater range. With a comfortable cabin, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will take you further than any gallon of gas. See how far you can go on a just a single tank by entering your zip code HERE.
