Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Crushes 2015 Ford F150 in Fuel Economy

Stricter fuel economy regulations are forcing automakers to make big changes, including pickup trucks.
Ram has stepped up to the challenge as it not only beat the 2015 Ford F-150 in fuel economy, the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel crushed the Ford.
In a 40-mile test loop on country roads with plenty of stop signs, the F-150 averaged 18 mpg while the Ram averaged a stunning 26 mpg in EcoDiesel.
While the EcoDiesel burns oil instead of gasoline, it was expected to perform well, but performing ABOVE the manufacturer’s claim and beating out the F-150 by 8 mpg was an even more impressive feat. The Ford didn’t even come close to it’s manufacturer’s claimed average fuel rating.
In the battle for fuel economy, Ram has definitely stepped up to the plate. If you’re looking for pickup with the fuel economy of a sedan, look no further.

New Camera Option for 2016 Ram Heavy Dutys

For those looking to tow more confidently, you’re in luck. Ram Trucks has introduced the next-generation Uconnect systems on the 2016 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks that will allow you to see exactly what’s behind you.
In 2013, Ram was the first heavy duty truck maker to offer rear-cab-mounted cameras to give drivers a view of the bed cargo and fifth-wheel/gooseneck trailer. At the time, the images from the cab camera showed up in the rearview mirror, and was very small.
That has now changed as the new Uconnect cameras will show two separate touch points on the screen that allows the driver to switch from the cab-mounted camera to the tailgate camera. Owners can even drag and drop any of the available truck apps to the screen to allow for instant access to their favorite features.
If you haven’t seen these new Uconnect features for yourself, visit our dealership for a test drive!

Adding Diesel Exhaust Fluid to your 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

The 2014 Ram 1500’s popularity as a daily driver is no surprise in part to its excellent fuel economy. Even in heavy traffic, the Ram averages 21-22 mpg, and up to 30 mpg on the highway. It’s all due to the 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V6 under the hood.

One reason that modern diesels run so cleanly is due to the urea-injection system that keeps the exhaust free of soot and odors. This fluid needs to be refilled occasionally.

Ram has thoroughly thought to the put refill tank adjacent to the fuel filler itself, with a blue cap marked “DEF/AdBlue”. There’s no indicator to tell you when you’re finished filling the tank unless you jump back in the truck to check the gauge, however.

The DEF tank holds about 8 gallons, and takes about 10 minutes to fill. It costs about $6 per gallon, which is roughly $50 about every 10,000 miles. It’s an easy addition to regular maintenance that won’t break the bank.

New two-way split tailgate in the works for Ram?

A new sort of tailgate could rethink the way we access the bed of a Ram pickup truck. Rather than the typical fold-down tailgate that is known so well, patent drawings reveal a tailgate that combines the functionality of a fold-down design with a 50/50 split. The split can be opened like a barn-door design or dropped flat like a standard tailgate.

Honda Ridgeline features a single-piece tailgate that is double-hinged so it can be opened traditionally or be swung out to the side. However the proposed patent tailgate will have two halves that can be used independently of the other. Unlike Honda, the individual halves would be operated via touchpads.

Implications for this new design aren’t completely clear, but it seems possible that the rendering could be for a concept vehicle, but production is a possibility as well. Ram definitely has the ability and willingness to innovate the pickup segment as of late, with features such as coil-spring rear suspensions, light-duty diesels and the Ram Box beside storage system.

Spotlight: 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

How far can the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel take you on just one tank of gas? You’d be surprised, especially when compared to its competitor trucks.

Ram has the industry’s first light-duty diesel engine producing exceptional torque, reducing CO2 emissions, and offering the best fuel economy of any full-size pickup. No wonder it’s already a legend.

At 28 highway mpg and 9,200 lbs max towing, the innovative Ram 3.0 EcoDiesel V6 engine outperforms the Chevrolet/GMC 5.3 L (4×2) by 5 hwy mpg, the Ford 3.5 EcoBoost (4×2) by 6 hwy mpg, and the Ford 5.0L (4×2) by 7 hwy mpg.

Simply stated, a gallon of diesel gas lasts longer than a gallon of gas. This means fewer fill-ups and some serious savings over the years.

Visit the Ram website HERE to calculate your yearly fuel savings by simply entering the amount of miles you drive per day.  That’s over $500 in total annual savings when you drive 50 miles per day as compared to the 2014 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine.

Greater savings also mean greater range. With a comfortable cabin, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will take you further than any gallon of gas. See how far you can go on a just a single tank by entering your zip code HERE.
